Time tracking overview
Track time with a live timer or log it by hand. Entries roll up on your timesheet, split by billable status, and feed straight into invoices.
Time tracking is the heart of Hoursmith. Run a live timer while you work, or log time by hand after the fact. Every entry lands on your timesheet, gets marked billable or not, and is ready to pull into an invoice.
- Role
- OwnerAdminManagerMember
Everyone can track their own time, including Members. Members see their own entries but never the billable value in money — that column is hidden for them. See Money-blindness.
Where to find it
Open Time in the sidebar to reach your timesheet at /time. To log an entry by hand, use the
Log time button there or go to /time/new. A live timer lives in the top bar on every page,
and a docked timer bar appears on mobile.
Two ways to track
- Live timer — click play, pick a project (and optionally a task), and Hoursmith counts the time for you. Best when you're working right now. See The live timer.
- Manual entry — type how long you worked, on what day, against which project. Best for catching up. See Manual time entry.
What you can do
The live timer
Start, stop, and edit a running timer from the top bar.
The one-timer rule
Why you only ever have one timer running.
Manual time entry
Log time after the fact with a duration.

Edit & delete

Bulk edit
Change billable status or delete many entries at once.
Billable vs non-billable
The flag that decides what gets invoiced.
Invoiced & locked time
What happens when time is added to an invoice.
Mobile & offline
Track on the go, even without a connection.
On the timesheet
The timesheet at /time lists your entries with summary tiles up top:
- Total — all hours in view.
- Billable — billable hours, with the billable percentage.
- Billable value — the money that time is worth. Hidden from Members.
You'll also find a Log time button, Copy last week (when this week is empty and last week wasn't), and Export CSV.
Export CSV downloads the timesheet exactly as you've filtered it. CSV export is a paid feature on Studio and up. See CSV export.
How time fits the workflow
Billable, un-invoiced time on a client's projects is what an invoice pulls from. Track it here, then create an invoice and Hoursmith lays the entries out as lines.
