Transfer ownership

Hand your workspace to another member. Transfer ownership atomically promotes them to Owner and demotes you to Admin.

There's exactly one Owner per workspace. When you need to hand the workspace to someone else, use Transfer ownership — the one and only way to make another person the Owner.

Only the current Owner can transfer ownership.

What it does

Transferring ownership is atomic: in a single step it demotes the current Owner to Admin and promotes the chosen member to Owner. There is always exactly one Owner — so there's never a gap or two Owners at once.

Choose the new Owner

Pick the member you want to become the Owner. They must already be in the workspace.

Confirm the transfer

Confirm. In one move, they become the Owner and you become an Admin.

After the transfer you're an Admin, not the Owner. You'll no longer be able to close the workspace or transfer ownership yourself — only the new Owner can. Make sure you're handing it to someone you trust.

When to use it

  • You're leaving the business and someone else will run the workspace.
  • You're the sole Owner and want to leave — a sole Owner can't leave or be removed, so transfer ownership first. See Remove & leave.

Troubleshooting

  • I can't find the option. Only the current Owner can transfer ownership. If you're an Admin, ask the Owner.
  • I just want to promote someone to Admin or Manager. That's a normal role change, not a transfer. See Change roles.
