I can't edit a time entry

Seeing "Invoiced time entries are locked"? The entry is on an invoice. Remove it from the invoice to release and edit it.

If a time entry won't let you change it and you see "Invoiced time entries are locked", that entry is attached to an invoice. Locking keeps your invoices and your timesheet in agreement.

Most likely cause

A time entry that has been added to an invoice is locked — that's the "Invoiced time entries are locked" message. You can't edit it while it's on the invoice.

How to check

  • Open the entry. If it's locked, Hoursmith shows the "Invoiced time entries are locked" notice.
  • Find its invoice. The entry will be on an invoice for that client — usually a draft you're still putting together, or a sent one.

How to fix

Remove the entry from its invoice

To unlock an entry, take it off the invoice. Cancel or delete the (draft) invoice it's on — that releases the entry and makes it editable again.

Edit the entry

With the entry released, make your change as normal.

Rebuild the invoice

Recreate or restore the invoice once your edits are done so it reflects the corrected time. See Cancel & restore.

Expenses behave the same way. A billed expense is locked until you remove it from its invoice — see Billed & locked expenses.
