Troubleshooting

I can't sign in

Can't get into Hoursmith? The usual culprits are an unverified email, wrong credentials, an expired reset link, or a 2FA code — here's how to fix each.

If sign-in keeps bouncing you back, work through the checks below. Most sign-in problems come down to an unverified email, a typo in your credentials, or a two-factor step.

Most likely cause

You need a verified email to sign in with email and password. If you signed up but never opened the verification link, sign-in won't let you through — and Hoursmith automatically sends a fresh verification link when you try (throttled to about one per minute).

The other common causes are simply wrong credentials (the error reads "Invalid email or password.") or getting stuck on the two-factor step if you have an authenticator app turned on.

How to check

  • Did you ever verify your email? If you're not sure, check your inbox (and spam) for the verification email. Verification links are valid for 24 hours.
  • Are the credentials right? "Invalid email or password." means the email or password doesn't match — not that your account is locked.
  • Do you see a code prompt after your password? That means TOTP two-factor is enabled on your account, and you'll need a 6-digit code.
  • Looking for "Continue with Google"? That button only appears if your Hoursmith operator configured Google sign-in.

How to fix

Verify your email first

If you haven't verified, open the most recent verification link. If it's expired (older than 24 hours), trigger a new one by attempting to sign in again — a fresh link is sent automatically, about once a minute. Not arriving at all? See I didn't receive an email.

Reset your password if credentials fail

If you keep getting "Invalid email or password.", use the password-reset link on the sign-in page. The reset link is valid for 1 hour, and using it signs you out of your other sessions.

Complete the two-factor step

After your password, enter the 6-digit code from your authenticator app. If you can't reach your authenticator, you can enter one of your 8-character backup codes instead.

Try a passkey

If you set one up, you can skip the password entirely and sign in with your passkey from the sign-in page.

Lost both your authenticator app and your backup codes? There's no self-serve recovery — only your Hoursmith operator can restore access. Reach out below and we'll point you to the right person.

Still stuck?

If you've verified your email, reset your password, and you're still locked out, email hi@hoursmith.app with the email address on your account and any error you saw. For two-factor and passkey details, see Account security & 2FA.
