Stripe isn't connected
Seeing "Coming soon" or no Pay button? Card payments need online payments enabled, a Studio or Agency plan, and a Stripe account with charges enabled.
To accept card payments you need three things lined up at once. If any one is missing, the Pay button won't appear and you may see "Coming soon" instead.
Most likely cause
Accepting cards requires all of the following:
- Online payments enabled on your Hoursmith instance — otherwise you'll see "Coming soon".
- A Studio Studio or Agency Agency plan.
- A connected Stripe account with "Charges enabled: Yes".
If you've started Stripe onboarding but not finished it, charges stay disabled and payments won't work yet.
How to check
- "Coming soon"? That means online payments aren't enabled on your instance — items 2 and 3 won't matter until that's on.
- Your plan. Confirm you're on Studio or Agency. Card payments aren't available on Free.
- Stripe status. As Owner or Admin, open Settings → Payments and look for "Charges enabled: Yes". Anything else means Stripe setup is incomplete.
How to fix
Confirm online payments are enabled
If you see "Coming soon", online payments aren't enabled for your Hoursmith instance. Contact us below — this is an instance-level setting.
Be on Studio or Agency
Card payments require a Studio or Agency plan. If you're on Free, upgrade in Billing & plans.
Connect Stripe and finish setup
In Settings → Payments, an Owner or Admin connects Stripe. If onboarding is incomplete, click "Finish setup on Stripe" to complete it, then "Refresh status" to pull the latest state.
Confirm charges are enabled
After refreshing, you should see "Charges enabled: Yes". Once all three conditions are met, the Pay button appears on Sent invoices with a balance.
All three conditions must be true together — the right plan alone isn't enough without a Stripe account that has charges enabled.
Still stuck?
If you've upgraded, connected Stripe, and charges still won't enable, email hi@hoursmith.app. The full walkthrough is in Connect Stripe.
My invoice email failed
Invoice or reminder email showing "failed"? It's usually a custom sender problem — check the Recent sends log, your SMTP port, and SPF/DKIM.
My client can't pay
No Pay button on your client's invoice? It only appears when the invoice is Sent, Stripe charges are enabled, and the balance is above zero.
