Tasks and current-page capture

Work with assigned tasks and turn an explicitly captured page into a reviewed Hoursmith task, time entry, expense, client, or project.

The Tasks section keeps assigned work close, while Quick capture turns the current tab into an editable preview only when you ask.

Unified searchable project/client/assignee fields and primary-assignee preservation require Hoursmith for Chrome 0.3.0 or later.

Work with assigned tasks

From My Day or Tasks, you can:

  • review assigned tasks and due dates;
  • search tasks you can access;
  • create a task in an accessible project;
  • update supported fields such as name, status, priority, dates, estimate, description, billability, and assignees when your role permits;
  • start a timer with the task's billable setting; and
  • open the exact task in Hoursmith for comments, attachments, and the complete editor.

In version 0.3.0+, project and assignee choices use one searchable field and can continue beyond the initial results. Changing a task's primary assignee preserves its other assignees unless you explicitly change them.

Capture the current page

Page capture begins only after an explicit action:

  • choose Use page in the toolbar popup;
  • choose Use this page in Quick capture; or
  • invoke the Hoursmith context-menu action.

Chrome grants one-time access to the active tab. Hoursmith prepares only:

  • the page title;
  • a sanitized HTTP(S) URL;
  • favicon URL metadata; and
  • up to 8,000 characters of selected plain text.

You see a preview before anything is saved. Edit or discard it, and choose whether a source URL is included where the selected form supports it.

Hoursmith does not capture a screenshot, full page, form fields, passwords, cookies, background tabs, or ongoing browsing history. It installs no persistent content script.

Choose what to save

The Quick capture tabs expose actions allowed by your role:

  • Task — prefill a task title and description from the page, choose a project, then review it.
  • Time — log completed work with an optional page source.
  • Expense — Managers, Admins, and Owners can choose a client and optional project, enter the amount and description, and optionally attach a receipt.
  • Client — Managers, Admins, and Owners can create a simple client record for later completion in the web app.
  • Project — Managers, Admins, and Owners can create a simple Non-billable project for a client, then configure full billing and access details in the web app.

Members still have Task and Time capture for projects they can access; management-only tabs are not shown to them.

The source preview stays editable after an error so you can retry. Saved records become ordinary Hoursmith workspace content and follow the same permissions, activity, invoice-lock, and deletion rules as records created on the web.

Receipt permission

Receipt upload is optional. Chrome asks for access to the exact receipt-storage host only after you select a receipt and submit the expense. Denying that permission does not block timers, tasks, or other core extension features; remove the receipt or approve the host to continue that expense.
