Client billing defaults
Set a client's currency, payment terms, hourly rate, tax, PO requirement, and billing email once — and have them flow to projects and invoices.
Billing defaults let you set a client's money settings once so every project and invoice picks them up. You'll find them in the Billing section of the client form.
- Role
- OwnerAdminManager
Billing defaults are manage-tier. Members never see rates or amounts.
Where to find it
Open a client and click Edit, then scroll to the Billing section.
The settings
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Currency | The currency for this client's invoices. The placeholder is "Use org default" — leave it blank to inherit your workspace default. |
| Default payment terms | When invoices are due: Due on receipt, Net 7, Net 15, Net 30, or inherit the workspace default. |
| Default hourly rate | Inherited onto new projects when the project's rate is left blank. |
| Default tax | A tax rate % applied by default. |
| Require a PO / reference on invoices | A toggle that adds a PO number field to this client's invoices. The helper text reads "Adds a PO number field to this client's invoices." |
| Billing email | Where invoices route when that's different from the primary contact. |
Set them
Open the Billing section
From Clients, open the client, click Edit, and find the Billing section.
Fill in the defaults
Set the currency, payment terms, hourly rate, and tax. Leave Currency blank to inherit your workspace default.
Optional: require a PO and set a billing email
Turn on Require a PO / reference on invoices if this client needs a PO number. Add a Billing email if invoices should go somewhere other than the primary contact.
Save
Click Save.
What happens next
- New projects inherit the Default hourly rate when their own rate is blank.
- New invoices inherit the currency, payment terms, tax, and the PO field.
Defaults apply going forward. Existing projects and already-created invoices keep the values they were made with.
Tips
- Per-client payment methods (bank transfer, card, card fee %) live on the edit page's Invoice payment methods card, separate from these defaults. See Edit a client.
