Team profitability
Compare attributed client revenue with team compensation, review legacy revenue gaps, and separate work margin from cash movement.
Team profitability in Payouts is private to Owners/Admins on Agency. It is separate from the existing Projects report; Managers do not gain access to compensation through their client reporting permissions.
Two different views of the business
| View | Dates and meaning |
|---|---|
| Work profitability | Client service revenue attributed to the selected work/service period, compared with compensation for that work. Approved and estimated costs remain distinguishable. |
| Cash movement | Client receipts/refunds and team payments on their actual payment dates. Cash difference is not profit. |
Neither view is full accounting: other overhead, taxes, and pass-through expenses are not a complete part of this margin. Approved optional nonbillable work adds labor cost once; unselected optional work is not estimated. Approving and paying the same bill does not double its cost.
Start with member totals and expand their project breakdowns. Totals cover the complete filtered
set before pagination. CSV exports include the breakdown and compensation-specific column names;
the browser export includes member/report totals. Legacy direct CSV callers can request include_totals=true.
Revenue attribution and review
New tracked invoices retain source attribution and proportionally allocated discounts. An invoice issued later can therefore contribute revenue to the earlier period when the work happened.
For historical hourly invoices, Hoursmith can recover attribution when locked time backlinks, frozen invoice prices, and individually quarter-hour-rounded quantities reconcile reliably. Recovery uses the frozen prices, not today's rates, and does not edit the invoice.
Fixed-fee, manual, or unreconciled legacy revenue needs an explicit service period and reviewed member/project shares. Tracked hours can suggest shares; unassigned revenue remains visible. Review the notices above the totals before treating a margin as complete. Reviewed attribution does not overwrite exact tracked ownership or change the posted client invoice.
Canceling an invoice removes its work revenue while retaining real receipt/refund history. Restoring it as a draft preserves attribution evidence but does not reactivate work revenue. Cash movement includes later receipts on their payment dates even for older invoices.
Reporting currencies
Original currencies remain visible. Reporting conversion uses manually maintained, effective-dated, versioned direct FX rates: work dates for work metrics, payment dates for cash metrics. There is no live-rate lookup or inferred chain of currencies.
Missing rates leave native amounts visible and mark affected conversions incomplete. Missing cash FX does not hide an otherwise complete work margin. Reporting conversions are estimates and never change approved bills or agreed payment settlements.
