Imports & exports overview

Bring your data into Hoursmith from Paymo or a CSV/Excel file, and export it back out — what's importable, where it lives, and who can do it.

Hoursmith can bring your existing data in and let you take it back out whenever you like. Both live under Settings → Imports (/settings/imports).

Before you start

Role: OwnerAdmin

Imports and CSV exports are managed by Owner and Admin. Undo and the workspace JSON export are Owner-only. Imports are free on every plan.

Importing

A source picker lets you choose where the data comes from:

Import from Paymo

Bring clients, projects, tasks, time, and invoices across with an API key.

Import from CSV / Excel

Upload clients, projects, or time entries from a spreadsheet.

Both imports walk you through a wizard, including a column-mapping step for spreadsheets and a map your team step so imported records attach to the right members.

Match your spreadsheet's columns to Hoursmith fields.

Import jobs

Track status, see errors, resume, or undo an import.

Undo an import

Roll back an import within 24 hours.

Only one import runs per workspace at a time. Imports are de-duplicated, so re-uploading the same file or re-running the same source is safe.

Exporting

Export data

Per-entity CSV exports, plus the full workspace JSON export.

Per-entity CSV — clients, projects, and time entries, from the Settings → Imports page. These round-trip with the CSV import.
Full workspace JSON — a complete export in the Danger zone.
